Community Dance Improv Class

Sundays 11:15am, Donation based

This class is for everyone!

Guided by a volunteer for that week, this is a class where we come together as equals, just people who love to move and enjoy a mindful practice. No one is pressured to lead, but everyone is welcome to move. Guided improvs mean there is a very loose structure that dancers can interpret as they wish or feel, but usually starts with a warm up, has a theme, and ends with a cool down. It’s donation based and conversation afterwards is encouraged. Occasionally live accompaniment. Come and enjoy moving. We’ve all been cooped up too long.

Making Dances with Lisa Yaconelli

at Canopy Studio www.canopystudio.org

Students will create solos, duets, and group pieces using improvisation games and movement challenges. Teaching to the whole child we will use everything, feelings, observations, personal thoughts, writings, and drawings to discover movement and create dances. This class is about finding one's voice, developing skills that enhance dance abilities, as well as building confidence in one's unique gifts and perspective. The spirit of community is felt in this class as kids are taught how to support each other and appreciate what each one has to offer. Process more than performance, cooperative rather than competitive, this is about the making.
